Print PDF

On October 6, 2011 an Israeli military force arrested Amjad Abu Asab, 28, Chairman of the Committee of Jerusalem Prisoners' Relatives, from his home in al-Siwaneh neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Abu Asab was taken to the police station in the Russian compound where his Israeli interrogators accused him of affiliation with a sabotaging organization, participating in a march, being present in vicinity of al-Aqsa mosque and of planning a demonstration in support of Palestinian prisoners inside the al-Aqsa mosque on October 7, 2011. He also faced charges of inciting violence and endangering citizens of the state of Israel.

However, Abu Asab denied the accusations and explained to his interrogators that he was not present inside the mosque during the demonstration of solidarity with Palestinian prisoners, since he was attending a wedding of his friend who works with him in al-Hayyat Medical Center. He also clarified to the interrogators that the Committee of Palestinian Prisoners' Relatives is mainly concerned with media activities, preparing and disseminating human rights reports.

He added to JCSER that he spent one night in prison and the next day he was taken to the Magistrate Court which decided his deportation from al-Aqsa Mosque for one month and imposed on him a 3rd party fine of NIS 7000 which should be paid in case he re-entered the mosque. It is worth mentioning that Abu Asab brother, Ya'coub was issued on October 10 an order prohibiting him from entering West Bank for six months.
