Jerusalemite Citizens & Merchants Call on WJM to Remove Piles of Garbage

Print PDF

JCSER called on the West Jerusalem Municipality (WJM) to ask public health & cleaning teams to remove the piles of garbage accumulated in the garbage containers in the city streets, especially Salah Elddin, Ar-Rashid, & Ibn Batoutah.

JCSER received a number of complaints from Jerusalemite citizens and merchants, complaining about the accumulation of garbage in the containers for the past week, causing spread of insects and flies at an alarming rate.

In their complaints, merchants noted that leaving the garbage containers open coinciding with the increase in temperatures aggravated the health problem, given that some containers are close to shops, restaurants, pharmacies & health centers.

JCSER Director General accused the WJM of carelessness in regard to deterioration in public facilities services, at the time joint teams of WJM & police are tracing public and private vehicles, and fining them.

He noted that the law forces the Jerusalem Municipality to provide Palestinian Jerusalemites with public services, especially that they pay the Arnona municipal tax. Those who fail to pay their taxes are usually traced by the Jerusalem Municipality and seizure measures are taken against their shops and houses.

He wonders, 'Why the Jerusalem Municipality accelerates to collect money when it comes to financial obligations, while it procrastinates when it comes to provision of services to the Palestinian neighborhoods?'
