JCSER warns of Israeli escalation in Jerusalem following the month of Ramadan

JCSER has warned from provocations by the officially-backed extremist Jews, especially that the police granted them permission to organize tours in Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The permission corresponded with the police attacks against dozens of Moslems who were observing I'tikaaf (staying in the mosque for prayers) and forcing them to leave the Islamic shrine.

According to JCSER, this official position of the occupation authorities that supports such kind of extreme actions doesnt conceal the intention to destroy the mosque. It also reveals the plot between the Israeli government and extremist Jews who two days ago, inaugurated a new tunnel in Wadi Hilwah area to connect Silwan town with the plaza of Al Buraq Wall. The new tunnel is connected to the net of tunnels under the old city, Al-Aqsa Mosque and Silwan town. Meanwhile, the authorities erected new settlement enclaves in those areas under the police protection.

"The situation in the holy city is on the edge of explosion, where occupation authorities intensify targeting residents and merchants with taxation, increase the restriction of movement, and deny the Palestinians their right to perform their religious ceremonies," JCSER said.

The center added, "In Sheikh Jarrah area, Israeli authorities began to build a Jewish neighborhood on ruins of the house of Jerusalem Mufti (Shepherd Hotel) which the authorities demolished most part of it few months ago." The authorities have recently approved building hundreds of new settlement units in Har Homa settlement which was built on the Palestinian land of Jabal Abu Ghneim.

JCSER warns of possible future Israeli actions against the Palestinian population of Jerusalem especially after the month of Ramadan, such as demolishing more houses in al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan, taking over more Palestinian houses in the Old City or even Sheikh Jarrah. The expected Israeli action and measures are related to the Palestinian bid to the UN in September. "This because the Israelis want to create confusion and to frustrate the international action that might accompany the Palestinians bid to the UN for recognizing the Palestinian state."
