Yesterday, JCSER launched its awareness campaign for the residents of Jerusalem and the West Bank concerning the instructions issued by the Israeli Interior Ministry with regard to submitting family reunification applications and obtaining residency permits for those who have been living in Jerusalem since 1987 and haven't until now obtained residency status.

A statement issued by JCSER's Legal Unit noted that a special section was opened in charge of providing clarifications and legal consultations concerning the Israeli government's new decision no. (2492) dated 28 October 2007. According to the decision, there is a possibility for the holders of West Bank ID cards of obtaining temporary residency permits provided that they have been living in Jerusalem before 31 December 1987 to date.

JCSER's Legal Unit called on citizens to approach its offices in Jerusalem to obtain the necessary consultations, noting that it is in the process of studying the content of the new decision and will issue a statement clarifying the articles of the decision, and its complications.

Lawyer Farid Mahajneh, who is in charge of providing legal consultations, noted that the Legal Unit will provide citizens with detailed explanations and consultations concerning temporary residency, in accordance with the new amendment of the nationality law and the law of entry to Israel. According to the new amendment, difficult humanitarian conditions will possibility be granted entry permits.

In addition to providing legal consultations, the Legal Unit will provide consultations in areas related to family reunification, building violations, national insurance, and Arnona municipal tax.
