Israeli police to open new station on Mt. of Olives

Israeli police will open a new police station atop the Mount of Olives in mid-February, according to announcement made by Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch on Tuesday.

On a tour of east Jerusalem, Aharonovitch said that 25 police officers will be stationed there to protect against grave desecration and stone throwing in the Mount of Olives cemetery.

"It will greatly increase the feeling of security," he said, adding that plans for the station have been in the works for over a year. The ministry coordinated with international Jewish groups who have demanded a greater police presence at the Mount of Olives cemetery.

Last year, the Israeli Prime Ministers Office began funding security cameras in the Mount of Olives cemetery, a security measure which led to arrests in recent months. (Jerusalem Post).
