Israeli military banned on Tuesday the Palestinian politician and journalist Rasem Obeidat, a resident of al-Mukaber from entering West Bank until July 9, 2012.

Obeidat was summoned to the police station on Tuesday to the police station in the Russian Compound and handed the ban order which was signed by Commander of Israeli Army in West Bank Avi Mizrahi.

The order stipulates that:

Within my competence, as commander of the Israeli army in the area, and in accordance to provision number 34 of 1967 for emergency situations, in addition to entry order number 5 for residents of Israel and outside Israel, to West Bank of 1970, and after being convinced with the presence of tangible doubt, and in order to protect the security of the state, for a compulsory issue to protect the security of citizens, I order Rasem Inad Ahmad Obeidat holder of ID card number 080657489 to be banned from entering the area of Judea and Samaria, or to be present in them except in the noted areas in the attached map without my order. This will cancel all the permits which previously issued to him, whether individually or collectively. This order is in effect until July 9, 2012.

Obeidat reported to JCSER, that when he tried to inquire the police interrogators about the reason for the ban order, they responded by informing him that their job was only to hand him the ban order. Obeidat considers the order a restriction on the freedom of movement and a breach of the basic human rights.
