Israeli police raided on Friday premises of the Noble Sanctuary, attacked and injured 39 Moslem worshippers in occupied Jerusalem.

According to eye witnesses, the police force raided the courtyards of al-Aqsa Mosque from the Moroccan Gate and fired tear gas canisters, used stun grenades and batons to disperse the worshipers, who responded to the raiders with throwing shoes and chairs.

Sources of the Palestinian Society of the Red Crescent reported that their medics provided medical treatment to 39 Palestinians who were either beaten by the police or suffered of tear gas which was used by the Israeli police.

The police also locked the worshipers inside al-Aqsa mosque.

Israeli police reported that eleven of its members were wounded during the clashes with moslem worshipers.
In the past week, Israeli police waged a wide arrest campaign among Palestinian residents of Jerusalem's Old City and banned dozens from entering the premises of the Mosque including some guards of the Islamic Waqf.
