JCSER Saves Two Houses from Demolition

Print PDF

JCSER's Lawyer, Farid Mahajneh, was able to obtain a decision from the Jerusalem Municipal Court in West Jerusalem, postponing the demolition of the houses of Ibrahim Abu Khater & Omar Al-Shaloudi, Palestinian residents of Silwan neighborhood of Occupied East Jerusalem, until 01 June 2006, with the possibility of extending the demolition order one more time, to enable them to complete the licensing process. The Court had previously decided that the house will be demolished by 01 July 2002.

The Center's Director General, said, 'Both citizens have made every possible effort to obtain building permits. The delay in obtaining building permits was attributed to the failure of the Jerusalem Municipality to comply with the building code, which forces the building committees to give replies to the building permit applications in sixty days' time. Despite the law, applications submitted by Arab citizens are kept in the drawers for months and years.'
