JCSER Calls for International Intervention

Print PDF

The Jerusalem Center for Social & Economic Rights (JCSER) described Israeli Interior Minister's insinuation to withdraw the residency permits from three Jerusalemite PLC members as an 'illegal' procedures and lacks credibility.

JCSER noted that 'this dangerous measure completely ignores the agreements and treaties signed between the Palestinians & Israelis, and constituting a flagrant violation of human rights acknowledged by international laws and conventions, even the basic law in Israel.'

The justifications given by the Interior Minister are false, unconvincing, and are not based in a legal foundation, but rather a political measure as implied by content of the letter sent to the PLC members and the president of the state of Israel.

It is noted that the targeted PLC members ran for the second 2006 PLC elections, during which they disclosed their political affiliations and trends. This is a basic right according to law. PLC elections were conducted with the approval and auspices of

The Center's Director General, warned of the implications that may arise, noting, 'The Israeli authorities won't hesitate implementing this measure against any citizen they want to get rid of, given that the measure is new added to previous measures which Israel has been implementing for over a decade. These include confiscation of ID cards from thousands of Palestinian Jerusalemites, approval of laws preventing family reunification and registration of children on the ID cards of one of the parents, and others, all of which eventually aim at empting the city of Jerusalem of its original inhabitants.'

JCSER calls on the international organizations, especially legal organizations, to take measures against anyone who violates the rights of Palestinian rights of Palestinian Jerusalemites, and to impose deterrent penalties on the Israeli government to prevent it from continuing its racist policy.
