After deliberations that proceeded for about two years in the Israeli courts, the Jerusalem center for social and economic rights was able to attain a decision from the Israeli labor court that obliges National Insurance Institution to reinstate healthcare insurance to a Palestinian Jerusalemite, Nawal Issa, after proving the validity of her Jerusalem residency status.

The courts decision to reinstate her healthcare insurance benefits after JCSER was able to prove Ms. Issas residency in occupied East Jerusalem, advocate Dina Shibly said. Ms. Issas health suffered major set backs due to NIIs healthcare benefits suspension period. The decision to suspend Ms. Issas healthcare benefits was based on unfounded and untrue accusations by the NII.

Ms. Issa is a mother of eight children and is suffering from kidney failure and she was receiving dialysis medication three times a week at Bikur Holim hospital before NII decided to suspend her healthcare benefits. The suspension also included the cancellation of her disability income that she was receiving due to her inability to work.

JCSERs advocate Dina Shibly pursued the case by filing a complaint against the NII at the labor court asking them to a decision to revert NIIs suspension of Ms. Issas healthcare insurance and disability income. In addition, advocate Shibly asked the court to speed the courts process given the condition urgent health of Ms. Issa. Consequently, the court announced its decision after being convinced with the evidence that proved Ms. Issa residency in occupied East Jerusalem.
