JCSERs legal unit concluded a visit to Brussels to participate a Networking and Training Seminar sponsored by the European Commission and hosted by Lawyers Without Borders Avocats Sans Frontieres.

The Seminar aimed at establishing and reinforcing professional networks between amongst lawyers from Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and focused on relevant aspects of domestic law and international human rights, humanitarian and criminal law. This activity was a continuation of ASF-Bs prior engagement in the Middle East and the goal was to offer a forum for professional training, reflection and discussion, free from political impediment.

During the Seminar, Palestinian and Israeli lawyers agreed on future cooperation between both sides on legal cases and to conduct additional meetings. The group also had the opportunity to meet with European Unions Deputy Foreign Minister, where JCSERs, lawyer Ashraf Saif expressed his concerns about the declining support by the European Commission to Palestinian NGOs in occupied East Jerusalem. The Deputy Foreign Minister responded by expressing that the reason for declining support in East Jerusalem is due to the absence of relevant EC institutions that follow up with human rights issues in the city.
