Demolition Warnings Against Fifteen Palestinian Houses

Print PDF

Israeli occupation forces have given fifteen Palestinian families - a total of 250 people - seventy-two hours to evacuate their homes in Dahiet As-Salam in Anata village, northeast Occupied Jerusalem, prior to demolishing the houses. The houses threatened with demolition include two residential buildings and a small number of tents belonging to the Arab Al-Jahalin in Waer Al-Beik in Anata village.

According to Ibrahim Al-RifaI, head of Anata villages local council, A number of house-owners were interrogated yesterday at the Russian Compound (Mascobia) in West Jerusalem concerning their ownership of the land on which the houses are built, and the importance of presenting building licenses.

The real purpose of the Israeli measure is to confiscate the land in favor of Israels Apartheid Wall. Part of the wall will pass south Dahiet As-Salam to be separated from Az-Zayim, and the main road leading to the Jewish-only settlement of Maele Adumim. Dahiet As-Salam, Shufat refugee camp, and Anata village will be surrounded by another part of the wall, from the north, in order for them to be separated from the Jewish settlement of Pisgat Zeev.

Israeli occupation forces have recently raided the homes of Palestinians who hold West Bank ID cards, requesting them to obtain residency permits, under the pretext that their properties (land, shops, and houses) are located within the West Jerusalem Municipality.

The Center also condemns todays demolition of four cement walls surrounding Al-Rajabi and Abu Zahriyhes land in the Ash-Shqariyyeh neighborhood, north of Occupied Jerusalem, with the authorities citing illegal construction.

Since the beginning of 2004, Israeli occupation authorities have demolished four houses and closed another house, in various parts of Occupied Jerusalem. During 2003, 122 residential structures were demolished.
