The Jerusalem Center for Social & Economic Rights (JCSER) described the Israeli governments decision to move the Interior Ministrys office in Nablus Street to the Al-Mamounieh School Building in the Wadi Al-Joz neighborhood of Occupied Jerusalem as very late and provides further evidence of the procrastination adopted by Israeli institutions in regard to implementing Israeli court decisions when it comes to the social and economic rights of Palestinian Jerusalemites.

JCSER Director General said, the Israeli governments decision to relocate the Interior Ministry comes two years after a decision obtained from the Israeli Supreme Court, the highest judicial body in Israel, which forced the Ministry to move its offices from Nablus Street to a more suitable building, with the aim of providing better services to Palestinian Jerusalemites, and ending the long-standing suffering of Palestinians who attempted to visit the Ministry experiencing maltreatment, dehumanization and humiliation.

This would not have happened if an Israeli court had issued a decision in favor of Jewish citizens with regard to official institutions providing public services, by law, addedJCSER's Director.

Heclarified that the pretext used by the Interior Ministry during more than two years of delay does not diminish its responsibility for implementing the court decision.

JCSER's Director criticized the relocation of the Interior Ministry to the Al-Mamounieh school in Wadi Al-Joz. It was supposed to be a school for girls, since the land on which the school is built was confiscated from Palestinian owners. At the time, Israeli occupation forces confiscated the land for the purpose of public interest. After the school was built, Israeli occupation forces retracted its plans on the ground that a school in this area would instigate security tense and hamper tourism programs due to its location near Israeli government departments and tourist facilities, such as the Hyatt Regency Hotel, said JCSER's Director..

Moving the Interior Ministrys offices to its new location will enhance the Israeli presence in an area in which other official Israeli institutions exist, including the government house, the Hebrew University, and the Sheikh Jarrah Medical Center, which is considered a circle among the settlement nuclei surrounding the Old City, starting from the settlement nuclei in Sheikh Jarrah and the Mount of Olives and reaching as far as the Jewish settlement of Maeli Hazitim in the Ras Al-Amoud neighborhood.
