Family Reunification Application Examined

Print PDF

The Israeli Interior Ministry has informed JCSER lawyer Ziad Qawar of its agreement to study the family reunification application of Majed Abdo, a Palestinian Jerusalemite resident of the Al-Issawiyya neighborhood, northern Jerusalem. The Ministry had previously refused to review the application, citing the Israeli governments May 2002 decision to freeze action on all Palestinian Jerusalemites family reunification applications.

Mr. Qawar clarified that the Ministers decision to re-open Majed Abdos family reunification application complies with a decision issued by an Israeli court two months ago, which forces the Interior Ministry to deal with the family reunification applications submitted before the Israeli governments freeze decision of 12 May 2004. Hundreds of Palestinian applicants have benefited from this decision.

With this decision, the Minister approved the registry of one of Mr. Abdos children on his ID card, after previously refusing such registration.
