Six Palestinian Houses Demolished in Occupied Jerusalem

Print PDF

JCSER strongly condemns the recent escalation in Israels house demolition policy against Palestinian Jerusalemites. Over the past two days, this destructive policy has resulted in the demolition of eight Palestinian buildings and over 3,000 square meters of cement walls surrounding eleven families in the areas of Al-Marwaha and Wadi Ad-Dam in Beit Hanina, northern Occupied Jerusalem.

According to JCSERs field reporter, Israeli occupation forces have today demolished six houses in the Jerusalem areas of Anata and Sur Baher. These houses were home to 70 family members, most of whom are women and children.

One of the demolished homes in Anata belonged to Mohammed Mousa Karshan Al-Jahalin, of Waer Ad-Deek. The house consisted of three floors and had a total area of 400 square meters. It was home to six families a total of 25 family members. During the evacuation, Israeli occupation forces attacked the inhabitants, resulting in the injury of 19-year-old Omar Karshan, who suffered moderate wounds.

Another of the Anata homes belonged to Arafat Mousa Hamdan. It had a total area of 120 square meters and was home to five family members. Also in Anata, the home of Mohammed Ammarin was demolished. It had a total area of 120 square meters and was home to ten family members.

In the Al-Fahidat neighborhood of Anata village, Israeli occupation authorities demolished Farhat Hadads 220-square-meter house. The house was home to three families a total of 20 individuals.

In Sur Baher, southeast Jerusalem, Israeli bulldozers demolished two other buildings under construction. One of them belonged to Yehia Jadallah and had a total area of 150 square meters.

According to JCSERs data, more than seventy houses in Anata and Sur Baher are threatened with demolition.

With todays demolitions, the number of Palestinian houses demolished by Israeli occupation authorities in Occupied Jerusalem since the beginning of January 2004 has risen to forty-six, according to JCSERs data.

JCSER Director General said, todays large-scale house demolitions in Beit Hanina, Sur Baher and Anata are part of Israels measures aimed at expediting the construction of the Apartheid Wall and taking out entire villages and neighborhoods from outside the wall, resulting in tens of thousands of Palestinian Jerusalemites losing their residency rights.

Todays demolitions in Sur Baher and Anata indicate that Israeli occupation forces will soon begin constructing sections of the Wall in this area. The process also includes the opening of the eastern circle road around Jerusalem. Although Israel describes the Wall as a security fence, the fact that the barrier winds through Palestinian areas separating Palestinians not from Israelis but instead dividing Palestinians from fellow Palestinians is a clear indication that the Wall is yet another apparatus for seizing Palestinian lands, he added.
