The Jerusalem Center for Social and Economic Rights attained a court order from the Israels Central Court, ordering the Ministry of Interior Office to reconsider a family reunification application submitted by a Palestinian named, Majed Bekirat from Soor Bahir district south of Occupied Jerusalem. After the Ministry of Interior rejected to open the file for security reasons.

Lawyer Ashraf Saif said, he relied on the expiration of the period which the court conviction on Bekirats security record and thus, Bekirats security record is clean and the Ministry of Interior can not rely its decision on a prior conviction in 1994 which Bekirat served its sentence. Thus, the court concluded that there is no reason which the Ministry of Interior should not reopen the file.

Lawyer Ashraf Saif considered the courts decision is of its utmost significance. Since the decision will open a window of opportunity to applications rejected for the similar reasons.
