JCSER attains a court order canceling an Administrative demolition order against an East Jerusalem home

Print PDF

Israeli Central Court issued a cancellation order of an administrative demolition order by West Jerusalem Municipality on an East Jerusalem home. This decision was issued in response to a year old petition that was submitted by JCSER to the court.

Lawyer Ziad Qawar said, The municipality issued an order July 14, 2003 to demolish a Palestinian Jerusalemite. The next day JCSER petitioned the municipality court to cancel the order, however the court rejected the petition. Then Mr. Qawar submitted an appeal to the Israeli Central court against the demolition order explaining the difficulties and discrimination East Jerusalemites face when applying for a building permit. This was based on figures through 2003, where the municipality granted 1415 building permits to West Jerusalem Jews and only 118 building permits were granted to Palestinian East Jerusalemites.

Qawar points out that he managed to convince the judge to deny the municipalitys request for additional time to support its demolition order. Thus, the demolition order was dropped and the house was saved.
