JCSER attained an order from the Israeli Central Court obliging the Interior Ministry to process a family reunification application by a Jerusalemite family.

Lawyer Dian Shibli said,Mr. Dajani submitted a family reunification application for his wife from the West Bank after they were married in 1999, supporting the application with the required documents and evidence. The Ministry of Interior office exercised delay tactics until May 2002, where Mr. Dajani received a rejection notice on his application using the pretext of a government decision to freeze the acceptance of any new applications after May 12, 2002.

Ms. Shibli added, when Mr. Dajani received the Interior Ministrys rejection notice he came to the Center and we filed a petition in the Central Court. After we filed the petition, the court found that there is no basis for the rejection and that the governments decision to freeze the acceptance of the new applications does not apply in this case.

In another matter, the Center was able to reactivate a family reunification application for an East Jerusalemites Mervat Salaimeh husband after it was rejected by the Interior Ministrys office. In addition, Ms. Salaimehs husband was granted a residency permit.
