JCSER warns against Israeli decision of removing the Old Citys historical Moroccan Gate connecting the Al-Boraq Square with Al-Haram Al-Sharif. The Center cautions from such a move by the occupying forces because it would ignite a new wave of violence in the holy city at the same scale as the violence that erupted as a result Sharons provocative visit to Al-Haram Al-Sharif in September of 2000.

The Center clarifies that the transfer of responsibility from the Archeological authority to the Prime Ministers office in this regard and allocating 5 million NIS to destroy the historical structure exemplifies the political ends that targets an illegal and complete control of Al-Haram Al-Sharif. This radical move is a clear sign of concession by the Israeli Prime Minister to extreme right wing Israeli groups that have been planning to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque. At the same time the Israeli security authorities are warning the Prime Minister of these groups intent to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This dreadful move on the part of the Israeli government is a clear act of desecration to the second holiest site to the Islamic world. It would also obliterate the significant historical features of the Old City. In this regards, JCSER calls on the UNESCO to intervene and halt such a gross violation to the religious and historical structure.
