JCESR condemns extending the racist citizen law

Print PDF

Israeli occupation government has decided today to extend working with the racist citizen law that prohibits family unifications of Palestinians from inside the green line with their spouses from West Bank or Arab countries for another year. According to the government decision, which was recommended by Israeli Minister of Interior Eli Yashi (Shas), the law has been extended till the end of July 2010.

JCESR condemns this Israeli decision and sees in it a blatant violation to basic human rights particularly the right of Palestinians to live and reside freely in their home and birth places.

JCESR Director expressed real concerns regarding this Israeli decision that reflects a real racist trend especially because the Israelis work along the hour to bring new Jewish comers from various countries such as France, Yemen, Ethiopia and European countries to replace the Palestinian indigenous people who are deprived of their residency and housing rights, a thing that reflects the occupation policy and racist discrimination.

Israeli Minister of Interior justified his position by claiming to protect and respect the country and its citizens! The temporary law has proved efficiency and there is no need to cancel it, he maintained.
