29,000- shekel Arnona tax exempted

The Jerusalem Center for Social & Economic Rights (JCSER) was able to obtain a decision from the WJMs Arnona Committee to reduce Rifat Naser Ed-Dins Arnona tax debt by 29,000 shekels, from 34,780 to 5,780 shekels, on a 20-square meter piece of real estate located in Ar-Rashid St., in Occupied Jerusalem.

The remaining balance of 5,780 shekels will be paid in ten equal monthly installments, and covers debts accumulated over the past three years, not from 1998 as was initially requested by the Municipality.

The decision also includes an 80% tax exemption on the real estate.

The Arnona tax will be imposed on four square meters of the total area of the real estate (20 square meters) as of the beginning of 2003.

The Centers lawyer, Dina Shibli, who is following-up the case of Naser Ed-Din, said the Committees decision was taken after documents, including engineers reports and pictures of the property, were submitted on behalf of the client.

These papers all indisputably confirmed that the property had been closed for years, and is now unfit to be utilized as it lacks proper infrastructure, making it difficult to renovate.
