The Jerusalem Center for Social & Economic Rights (JCSER) warns thatf Israel may exploit the worlds preoccupation with its aggression on the Gaza Strip to escalate its measures aimed at Judaizing the city of Jerusalem, taking over more Palestinian land, and completing its construction of the Apartheid Wall around Jerusalem.

A report prepared by JCSERs Research & Documentation Unit noted that The Israeli occupation authorities decision to turn lands in Al-Ghars area in At-Tur neighborhood, to the east of the Old City of Jerusalem, in favor of the settlement nucleus Bet Orot is regarded as an escalation in the Israeli measures aimed at judaizing the neighborhood.

The report noted that the targeted land was previously confiscated by the West Jerusalem Municipality for the public interest and for building a school for the students of the neighborhood. One example was when it built Al-Mamouniyeh School in Wadi Al-Joz neighborhood to replace the current school. The school, however, was turned into offices for the Israeli Interior Ministry and other Israeli institutions under the pretext that a school for Arab students in the neighborhood causes security damage in the area. There are the Interior Ministrys offices, an Israel hotel and the Hebrew University.

The report noted that creating these new facts means tightening the settlement ring around the Old City of Jerusalem to the east, while the construction of the Jewish settlement of Nof Zion on the southwestern skirts of the Jabal Al-Mukabber is continuing. The settlement overlooks the Old City from the southern side. At the same time, the infrastructure for the Jewish settlement of Kidmat Zion is underway. The settlement overlooks Silwan and is adjacent to Ras Al-Amud.

The report adds, The confiscation of the Kurd family property and the threat to take over other 27 property in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood indicates that Israeli occupation authorities aim to Judaize the neighborhood.

JCSERs Director General, said, Israel preceded its aggression on the Gaza Strip with a series of measures on the ground. Israeli Supreme Courts decision to complete the construction of the Apartheid Wall around Shufat Refugee Camp, Ras Shihadeh & Dahiet As-Salam. This will lead to the isolation of a residential community with a population of over 40,000 from Jerusalem, and taking its residents out from the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem.

In this context, the Center warned of the Israeli armys recent decision to confiscate more than 500 dunums from Abu Dis, to the east of Jerusalem, in favor of the Apartheid Wall in the eastern part of Jerusalem. With the completion of the Wall in this part, another Palestinian community will be isolated in Al-Izzariya, Abu Dis & Sawahreh Ash-Sharqiye, with a population of 40,000 people.

The acceleration of the Judaization measures by the Israeli occupation authorities aims to implement the largest possible of settlement construction at the time the whole world is preoccupied with the Israeli aggression on Gaza,JCSER's Director said.
