Affidavit about settlers attack

By: Nasser Abel Fattah al-Ghawi

Location: Sheikh Jarrah Occupied Jerusalem

Date: March 2, 2010

Age: 47

"At about 7:30 p.m. on March 2, 2010 while I was sitting on the pavement of the street facing my home which was taken by Jewish settlers in Sheikh Jarrah, I heard the kids shouting following the attack by one settler who was hitting my 9-year-old son Abdallah. I rushed quickly towards Um Nabil al-Kurd's home where my son was present inside her protesting tent. I get inside the external yard of the home and drag my son from between the settlers. By then they attacked and kicked me leaving me with injury in the knee of my left leg. There were around 40 settlers celebrating inside Um Nabil Home which the setters had appropriated earlier.

The settler assailants were not familiar to me and that they were wearing the Jewish religious uniform in addition to the Kipas.

They even attacked my wife's sister Jamalat. Afterwards, the youth in the neighborhood interfered to rescue us. By then the settlers began to spray pepper gas. As a result my 17-year-old nephew who suffers of Asthma suffered of gas inhalation and was transferred to Makkased Hospital for medical treatment, but he was sent home one hour later.

During the incident four Israeli policemen were present at the seen, yet, they didn't interfere to rescue my son, despite of my plea to them.

After a period of scuffle with the settlers, one of the policeman interfered to attack our neighbor Saleh Abu Diyab by pointing his rifle directly to his chest.

Later, more reinforcements of the Israeli police, Border Guards and Special Units arrived to separate between parts of the fracas. As a result of the incident, my son Abdallah sustained several bruises in various parts of his body and he received medical treatment on the spot by medics of the Palestinian Red Crescent. Also, my wife Maysoun and her sister Jamalat sustained some bruises. Personally, I suffered of some scratches below my knee. My brother Fuad, 65, was arrested by police before the scuffle with the setters on allegations that he fired "beads" towards the verandas of my home and towards Um Nabil's home, both were taken over by setters.

Also, my nephew Ibrahim Hussein al-Ghawi, 17, was arrested on claims that he had beaten one of the settlers during their attack against my son Abdullah.

Settlers attack never stopped at all against residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. Two weeks ago, one of the settlers attacked by 5-year-old sun Adam who was standing at the pavement of the street that faces our appropriated home. He was injured in his right eye after he was hit with a metal pipe. Following the arrival of the police, the settler was arrested but released few hours later.
