Palestinian child under house arrest

Print PDF

Name: Abel Rahman Ishaq Muhammad Hassan al-Zaghal

Date of birth: Oct. 3, 1993

Place of residency: Ras al-Amud

Ten grade student Rashidiyeh School

"Last October, I was arrested from the street during the confrontations with Israeli police following the raids to yards of al-Aqsa Mosque by extremists Jewish settlers. They faced me with stone throwing charges. I was incarcerated for ten days and then transferred to Israeli Central Court which ordered my deportation for two months from my home in Ras al-Amud to Tel Aviv where my older brother works as a cook.

During my stay in Tel Aviv, I felt with alienation and suppression and used to stay alone at the residency of my brother who used to leave for work from 11:00 at night till the next mid day.

According to the court order, I was prohibited from leaving the apartment of my brother there. For two months I never saw the streets of Tel Aviv. I felt bored and was very nervous while waiting in deportation for the date of my second court session which ruled to allow me back to my original home, yet, it put me under house arrest. My freedom was restricted and I could not go to school alone because I had to accompany one of my parents according to the court order.

I observed a very difficult situation because my dad suffers of diabetes and heart problems and need big attention from my mother who is the breadwinner of six family members including 3 kids. Thus, accompanying me to school adds to their burden.

Today (March, 3, 2010) Israeli court held its third session and decided to extend the house arrest until the coming trial which will be held on April, 21, 2010. The court justified its decision by claiming that it needs a report by a licensed social worker about my family and psychological conditions.
