Report: house demolition orders, a new phase of the mayor's iron fist

"The recent house demolition orders which were issued to dozens of Palestinian homes in the Holy City, forms a new phase of the iron fist policy, which was declared by mayor of Israeli Jerusalem Municipality, Nir Barakat immediately after he took office," said a report issued by JCESR's Research and Documentation Unit.

The report noted that the cases of many homes slated for demolition are still proceeding in Israeli courts, which have not issued their verdicts. Henceforth, implementation of demolitions against dozens of Palestinians is now looming in the near future.

According to the center's data and based on the municipality information, demolition threatens thousands of Palestinian homes, while the municipality says that more than 1000 Palestinian homes were built without its approval. Jerusalemites have suffered for long from the municipality which imposes intolerable restrictions on construction by Palestinians who suffer of aggravated housing crisis in light of the continuous population growth.

The report highlighted the fact that highest Israeli highest legal system, the High Court, is approving such demolition orders. The court, the report says, has always provided support to the Israeli executive body regarding all of the Israeli policies against Palestinian population such as: land confiscation, properties appropriation and house demolitions.
