Border Guards' attack against a Palestinian child

Print PDF

Name: Abdallah Jamal Tawfiq Gheith

Age: 16

Place of residency: Silwan

Date of birth: January 8, 1994

Date of the incident: March 24, 2010

Date of taking the affidavit: March 29, 2010

"On March 24, 2010 at around 2:30 p.m., I was sitting in front Abu Muhmmad store which locates in Batn al-Hawah neighborhood in al-Yaman Quarter. I live near the house of setter Ghafash. The situation was very calm and there were no incidents or any problems between the Palestinians and the group of setters who reside in the area. While I was sitting alone, three soldiers came from the entrance of the street, where the settlement of Beit Yonathan situates. There was a big distance between the location where I used to sit and the settlement enclave. When members of the Border Guards approached me, they asked for my ID card and then they ordered me to stand up in order to search me. At that moment, my uncle Khaled Hazem al-Rajabi arrived and asked about what was going on? I responded that the bastards are searching me! Then one of the soldiers inquired me about what I said.

Immediately, the soldiers took me to inside the jeep which was locating near the building of Beit Yonathan Settlement. One of the soldiers drove the car to Wadi al-Rababa area which leads to Jaffa Gate and to Jerusalem Cinematheque. There they ordered me to get out of the Jeep. By then two soldiers slapped me twice on the face and another hit me with his truncheon on my stomach and pushed it into my stomach. I felt as if the truncheon was to purse my back. The attack against me lasted for ten minutes and no body was present on the scene, only passing cars. One of the soldiers cursed me by saying "you brother of the pitch." Finally, one of them kicked me with his leg and ordered me to leave the area. Later, they left me in the Jeep and obliged me to walk back for 3 kilometers in order to reach my home. I felt a lot of pain in the stomach. I haven't got any means of communication in order to call for help.

When I reached home, I realized that the same Border Guards returned to Beit Yonathan.

Since the recent incidents which took place on the anniversary of the destruction of the temple, there was a constant group of Border Guards patrolling the area in front of Beit Yonathan on daily bases.

At night, I went to the family doctor who advised me to head to the emergency department in Haddassah Hospital in Issawiyeh to check my stomach. However, because it was too late, I preferred not to go. Now, I feel much better."
