Arrest of Adel Bader al-Maslamani

Print PDF

Affidavit by: Adel Bader Ragheb al-Maslamani

Date of the incident: May 27, 2010

Date of the affidavit: June 17, 2010

"On Thursday May 27, 2010 while I was at work in Atarot industrial zone I received a phone call from home at 4:40 informing me that unidentified people were attacking my house. I rushed together with my son Nabih, 22. When I arrived home, I found my wife standing in front of the door of my house. She looks very frightened.

She told me that two of my sons had been arrested. When I headed to the car, I found my two sons Nidal and Bader locked inside two civilian cars, while another police car was stopping near them. Also a group of Israeli intelligence agents in plain clothes where present at the seen. When I asked the police about the reasons behind arresting my sons, he responded that they threw stones towards a police car and "that is way we pursuit them to the house and arrested them."

However, my wife and the neighbors confirmed that they didn't see any police car during the raid of my house and assaulting members of my family. Also, the assailants failed to identify themselves. My wife thought at the beginning that the raid was related to a court order to evacuate our house which was issued by the Israeli Magistrate Court on the pretext that it had been confiscated since August 15, 1968.

My two detained sons were taken to the Israeli police station at the Russian Compound. I hired lawyer Maher Hanna from attorney Jonathan Kuttab's office to defend them. They were charged with attacking ten police and damaging a car. I was able to see them three times during their court proceedings in the Magistrate and Central Court.

Despite the fact that the judges accepted the lawyer demand to release them on bail, yet the attorney general used to appeal against the demand. When I saw my son Nidal for the first time inside the Magistrate Court, his head was wrapped with a bandage. He told the judge that he was subjected to severe beatings inside the police station and sustained injuries in the head. By son Bader took of his clothes before the judge to show him the bruises that resulted from the beatings.

The judge transferred the complaint to the police unit called Mahash. My sons were beaten during the police attempt to force them to confess that my neighbors and my wife had assaulted members of the Israeli police.

However, when the neighbors tried to interfere, they didn't realize that the people who raided my house were in fact members of the police force. At the beginning, the neighbors believed they were thieves. I wonder why they didn't identify themselves from the beginning, despite the fact that they were riding private cars.

My two sons denied all the charges. My son Bader is engaged and works with Coca Cola Company, while Nidal works in the Goldsmith which I run in Atarot industrial zone. We are a family of ten members. We used to live in the house since 14 years after I paid $75,000 in exchange for leasing protection rights. I pay $500 monthly rent for the Islamic Waqf which is the owner of the house. However, two years ago, I received an eviction order issued by the Israeli Custodian of Absentee Properties. However, my lawyer Khaled Zabarka succeeded in freezing the order."
