Silwan clashes

Print PDF

Affidavit by: Fouad Khader Abdel Fatah al-Rajabi

Venue: Silwan

Date: June 26, 2010

"On June 26, 2010 while I was watching a football match of the mondial at around 10:00 p.m., I heard screaming and unclear voices. Consequently, I left with my brothers towards the source of the screams. There, I saw many people gathering while facing a group of Israeli Border Guards. There were around 50 soldiers who were firing tear gas canisters and stun grenades towards the residents. On their part, Palestinian youths were pelting the soldiers with stones while several Palestinian cars were parked in the streets.

By then, I heard the military officer Shadi requesting the driver of the military Jeep car to move away a white Fiat Uno 2004 from the way of the soldiers who were hiding from the stones and were walking near a wall after the Palestinian soldier began to throw stones. The Fiat car was parked near the right side of the wall.

I was at a distance of two meters from officer Shadi. Afterwards, the military jeep hit the Fiat car which was parked near Marwan Geith's home which locates at a distance of 10 meters away from home of the car owner Ibrahim Shahin. The green Jeep which hit and moved the Fiat car away held number 463/22. After it was hit by the Jeep the Palestinian car crashed against the wall. When the Jeep hit the Palestinian car from the back part of its lights were left hanged on the Fiat car.

Following the incidents, the driver of the Jeep left the area with his car and another Jeep holding number 286/22 arrived to station in the area. The new Jeep also hit the Palestinian car once again from the back. On its way back, it hit another Opel car 1991 which is owned by my neighbor Abdel Karim Wazwaz.

The clashes in Silwan between the Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers lasted until the dawn of next day June 27, 2010. The clashes were instigated when one of the settlers guard tried to harass one of the Palestinian girls which was passing by the house of settlers. Two days earlier, Palestinian youth in the area were able to force him to leave the area. But he returned later to the area and raised the volume of his tape recorder to provoke by that the youth who began to throw stones against him. He responded together with the soldiers by firing tear gas canisters and stun grenades."
