The Palestinian youth Mahmoud Jubran, 23, who resides in Dahyet al-Salam in Anata reported to Jerusalem Center for Social and Economic Rights that he was subjected to a racist attack by Jewish youths. The incident took place when he was sitting inside one of the coffee shop locating in Jaffa Street.

He said: "On October 16 at around 11:30 p.m., while I was sitting together with Oday Jubran, 18, inside a coffee shop, a Jewish youth wearing a Kipa (Jewish hat) approached me and requested a cigarette. However, I responded that I didn't have any. Then he left the area, but returned with other ten Jewish youths. One of them asked me about the reason for not giving him a cigarette. I answered that I don't smoke and when I asked him if he wanted to create any problem, he said yes. At that moment I stood up because I feared they might attack me. By then, more Jewish youths arrived at the seen and their number rose to around 20."

"By then, I received a blow with a piece of stone and a glass bottle on my face. Therefore, I began to run towards the main street and the Jewish youth pursuit me while shouting "an Arab." While I was running, one of the passers blocked my way with his leg, so I felt on the ground. At that moment, he began to punch me. However, I succeeded to push him and ran away, but I felt dizzy and I felt on the ground once again. By then, many people participated in hitting me on various parts of my body. Some Jewish girls also joined the attackers in the assault."

"The Jewish youths used to shout "you garbage.. son of the pitch." Several dozen Jewish youths were applauding during the attack while blood was covering my face. At that moment, an Israeli security official arrived and told me not to be afraid because he is a police officer, and within minutes I was transferred to Hadassah Hospital. I stayed there till 1:00 a.m. I suffered of swollen eye and of bruises all over my body, knowing that I suffer of heart failure and have an organizer for heart beat implanted in my body. I thought I might die that night during the attack which I was subjected to on the hands of Jewish fanatics. I filed a complaint to the police against the assailants which showed me several pictures of suspects however, I couldn't recognize any of them."
