Hitting a Palestinian child by a settler car in Silwan

Print PDF

Name of the victim: "Omran Muhammad Omran Mansour, 12."

"Following Friday prayers on October 8, 2010, I saw a group of soldiers stationed in Wadi al-Rababa watching the cars that were heading to Silwan. Later, I saw a car coming from Wadi Hilweh and I heard the people shouting that it was a settler car. However, when the driver saw the masked kids, he drove backwards as if he is preparing to attack. He later drove straight forward towards the location of the children, where I was standing. I approached the car while carrying a piece of stone in my hand, but he hit me with car, causing me to fly in the air and fell on the ground."

"Consequently, I lost conscious and was transferred to Makassed Hospital for medical treatment. I sustained injuries in the head, shoulder and leg. I left the hospital late at midnight for fears of arrest. Later, I saw the video footage transmitted threw several TV stations."

"On the morning of October 17, I was arrested from my home and taken to detention center in the Russian compound. There I was interrogated in presence of my mother about the incident."

"I was shown the video clip of the incident and was asked about identity of the children who were present in the street during the incident. The interrogator also inquired me about any involvement in the stone throwing incidents. I denied that I was throwing stones and insisted that when I saw the car approaching me, I held the stone to defend myself but I didn't throw it on the settler car."

"I was later taken to court which decided to put me under house arrest for two weeks on the condition of accompanying my mother whenever I would leave home to school or for medical treatment. The court also imposed a fine of NIS 2000. It also warned me of imposing additional fine of NIS 5000 in case that I defy the conditions of my release."
