A Report by JCSER's Media Unit Warns of Imminent Collapses in the Old City's Buildings Due to Israel's Ongoing Excavations

A report issued by JCSER's media unit warned of Israel's ongoing excavations taking place under the Old City's buildings, especially those adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The report revealed that large-scale excavations are taking place around the clock in different areas of Jerusalem's Old City, especially in Al-Atarin Market, Chain Market, Qatanin Market, Al-Wad Street, as well as along Al-Burak Tunnel under the Al-Omariyeh School reaching up to Bab Al-Asbat (Gate of the Tribes) where excavations are taking place under dozens of these buildings.

It highlighted what is taking place is a wide network of excavations that led to the construction of large tunnels and huge yards leading to numerous areas in the Old City where dozens of settlement nucleuses and Talmud Schools spread.

The report noted that local and foreign workers of different nationalities are working on shifts around the clock in carrying out the excavations underground.

The report expressed concern that these excavations is a preliminary step towards emptying a strip of real estates and buildings in the surroundings of the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext that they are 'dangerous, unsafe buildings' at the time the Jerusalem Municipality is imposing strict restrictions on maintenance and renovation works for building and real estates inside the walls of the Old City.

Previously, JCSER documented excavations carried out by settlement societies in the Old City of Jerusalem causing cracks in citizens' property. One example was what happened a week ago in the Al-Fityani real estate in Al-Qatanin Market. This was preceded by settlers' attempts to infiltrate some real estates through excavation works they carried out in the settlement nucleuses they occupy.
