JCSER Calls on Palestinian Jerusalemites to Be Careful During Jewish Celebrations of Yom Kippur Day of Atonement

Print PDF

The Jerusalem Center for Social & Economic Rights (JCSER) issued a statement calling on Palestinian Jerusalemites to be careful while moving in the Holy City during Jewish celebrations of Yom Kippur Day of Atonement. It warned them that their vehicles might be attacked with stones by Jewish settlers who attack Arab vehicles on this occasion to prevent them from moving, given the fact that Jewish people dont use their vehicles on this day.

JCSER calls on Israeli security parties to provide Palestinian citizens with protection, holding them responsible for any victim that may occur among Palestinians, especially children, women, and the elderly. It referred to the Fourth Geneva Convention applicable to the Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt), including Jerusalem, forcing Israeli authorities to provide protection to the Palestinians.

The Center also called on Israeli forces not to place restrictions before citizens freedom of movement in the Holy City. Israeli authorities closed the main roads in Jerusalem, thus forcing citizens to take branch routes costing them a great deal of time, effort and money.

The Center condemned Israel's closure of roads and crossing points around Jerusalem, and the imposition of security cordon on the Occupied Palestinian Territories during Jewish feasts, thus disrupting Palestinian life in Occupied East Jerusalem, especially in the education, trade and health sectors.
