JCSERs Research & Documentation Unit warns of the long-term demographic and humanitarian implications resulting from the Israeli Supreme Courts decision concerning the construction of the Apartheid Wall around Shufat Refugee Camp, Ras Khamis & Dahiet As-Salam.

The court decision will reduce the population structure in Jerusalem by more than 30,000 Palestinian Jerusalemites living in these three areas. This means that they will lose their basic human rights, including their social and economic rights. Further restrictions will be imposed on thousands of citizens, including employees and school students. This constitutes an introduction to taking out this huge population sector from the Palestinian geography in Jerusalem.

JCSERs Director General, expects that implication of the court decision will start on the ground following the completion of the construction of the Apartheid Wall. He referred to the preparations currently taking place to turn the military checkpoint on the entrance of the refugee camp to a border crossing point, as in Qalandia crossing point.

He refuted what was mentioned in the court decision concerning the security justifications to build the Wall in the surrounding of the refugee camp. He said, What is currently taking place is drawing new political geographical borders. The expansion of the Jewish settlements surrounding the refugee camp from its four sides, and the construction of an advanced, complicated network of roads indicates Israels Judaization concerted efforts to get rid of the largest number of Palestinian Jerusalemites within the framework of a demographic survey carried out by the Israeli official departments.
